Hey there! I’m Elise and this is my little corner of the internet where I’m going to share all things to do with ME! Mainly things to do with exercise, female topics and living in Thailand.
Sport: From Ski Racing to Strength and Conditioning
Sport has been a huge part of my life ever since I was young. Back in school, you'd never believe it but I was into running, always going to school competitions for 800m and cross country events. Then the swimming days began, which was eventually taken over by competitive ski racing across England and Europe. I got into skiing through my mum wanting to try it out for her birthday. We have always lived opposite a dry ski slope, so we all went there to learn before heading to France. After the holiday, I didn't want to stop, I got asked if I would like to join the race team and after getting a bronze medal in my first race, the rest was history! After my skiing days, my next natural transition was into strength and conditioning. I had received Strength and Conditioning support through my skiing and this made me realise how much I loved coaching and supporting others.
Living Abroad: Adventures and Challenges in Thailand
But the excitement doesn't stop there. After university where I learned about all things sports science and Strength and Conditioning, I found myself moving to Thailand to gain a deeper understanding of youth-athletic development. And, obviously a huge new experience of moving abroad alone and navigating life in Bangkok. It’s been an adventure of discovering new cultures, languages, and places, whilst balancing life, training, and health.
Struggles and Growth: The Realities of Life Abroad
Living in Thailand has been incredibly rewarding, but, of course, it’s come with its challenges. Moving away meant there was an endless amount to learn, and coming from university was a big shock. Finishing my final year of university felt like a whirlwind, it all happened pretty quickly, and then here I was in Thailand. Moving into my first job after university and restarting my life in an unknown country.
I had never been to Asia before, so I had no idea what to expect. As seems to always be the case in my life, I’ve experienced many health issues, some of which persisted after I moved and seemed to get worse. I’ve had countless hospital appointments, and I’m still navigating through them. With a possible diagnosis of Endometriosis (though not yet confirmed), I’ve had to make significant changes to my training load, diet, and stress levels, all while creating better habits suited to my body and learning to truly listen to it.
These changes and habits are still being developed, but as I continue to learn more about myself and apply research, things are becoming easier. That’s what I want to share with you: the real, unfiltered truth about training as a woman, managing life abroad, and how to train by working with your body, not against it.
