Why BeyondActive Girls Exists

After I stopped ski racing, I felt like I had lost my purpose with training. It's easy to fall into the training for appearance trap. Moving to Bangkok, I was lucky to meet so many active women who inspired me.  My mindset shifted when I saw so many opportunities for fitness around Thailand. I wanted to push myself to do things that challenge me. I want to be strong and capable, and that's what I want to encourage in this community. We bring together those who lift and live beyond the barbell. Women who love the gym, but may feel scared to go or to try new activities on their own. We do it together through fun events and weekends away to explore what Bangkok and Thailand has to offer. It's all about supporting each other, making friends and exercising.

Finding Summit Gym

I wanted something a few hours from Bangkok, so we could head there after work on Friday and return on Sunday. After finding out that Summit gym had a Strong Women class, a gym class specifically for women, it seemed like a perfect fit. I got in touch and had such a friendly welcoming response.

The Plan

Ten of us headed down to Hua Hin for the weekend, staying in a villa together. The aim was simple: make friends, exercise and relax away from the city. The plan was to have a Saturday morning session at Summit Gym, a nice dinner and a Sunday morning beach walk.

Trying something new, training with people you might not know, pushing yourself outside your comfort zone and ultimately that's exactly what BeyondActive Girls is all about.

Saturday Morning at Summit Gym

We arrived on Saturday morning and were welcomed by Coach Charlotte, who had this positive, fun energy that immediately put everyone at ease. The communication and organisation from Summit Gym had been excellent from the start, and that continued in person. The Strong Women class was perfectly structured for our group. We started with a warm-up and mobility work to get our bodies ready. Then we moved into the main circuit: 40 seconds on, 15 seconds off, rotating through 9 different exercises. Charlotte had carefully chosen a mixture of upper and lower body movements that could accommodate us.

One thing I really appreciated was how well Summit Gym adapted the exercises to our group. Charlotte was brilliant at offering modifications and pushing people. Everyone felt challenged but capable. The gym itself is a lovely indoor space with air conditioning, which I know our group really appreciated. The Thai heat can be a lot, especially when you're working hard, so training in a comfortable environment made a huge difference.

The Facilities

Summit Gym isn't just a gym. They have a Muay Thai gym, CrossFit area, Hyrox setup, and a recovery area. After our class, we stayed to use their sauna and ice bath area. This turned out to be the perfect setup for socialising and catching up as a group.

We just couldn't leave, so we then grabbed chicken wraps and rice bowls, proper nutritious food that tasted good.

The Verdict

Everyone agreed that Summit Gym was the highlight of the weekend. The communication was excellent, the organisation was spot-on, and Coach Charlotte's class couldn't have been better. They made us feel genuinely welcome, and not just like another group booking.

For anyone wanting to exercise in Hua Hin, regardless of your ability, I'd definitely recommend Summit Gym. They're excellent at matching exercises to different fitness levels, and the range of facilities means there's something for everyone.

What This First Trip Meant

Seeing ten people show up for this first BeyondActive Girls trip, watching people push through their nerves, hearing everyone chatting and making friends, and then relaxing together in the sauna afterwards... this is exactly what I envisioned when I started this community. It's about trying new things, training for performance, being supported by others and having fun!
